The proposed experience
The Mediterranean has long been a strategic area for trade, attracting pirates and privateers since ancient times. This guided tour takes you back in time as you explore the natural landscapes of the Giens peninsula.
The route allows you to discover the natural and historical heritage of the site, with a stop at Fort du Pradeau. Access to the fort's terrace, included in the tour, offers a 360° panorama of the Hyères harbour and the Îles d'Or.
The walk also addresses a current environmental issue: biological invasions. Certain exotic plants, which have become established after years of cohabitation, now pose a threat to the balance of protected natural environments. Participants learn about the mechanisms of these invasions, the role of local species and the missions of the Mediterranean Botanical Conservatory.
Did you know?
Here, the sea has not always been synonymous with holidays: for centuries, people scanned the horizon, as it could also herald danger.
The Fort du Pradeau stood guard, ready to sound the alarm in the event of pirate attacks.
